Hello Everyone!
It’s Monday! Are you ready for another Link-UP?
If this is your first time seeing this, first.. let me say, “I’m glad you’re here.”
LAURA’S LINK-UP is something that helps me connect with all of you, as well as you with others. Two Monday’s of each month, I will post a thought-provoking question. Sometimes, the question just sits there. That’s ok. But, usually…there’s always some brave soul out there that can’t resist…and starts up a conversation with their most excellent answer. 🙂 Thanks to all of you who have kept this going. The more comments posted, the more connections made. With your comment, you are asked to leave a link to your blog for others to LINK-UP to. And so, now that you know…I hope you keep reading and stick around long enough to connect with at least one other awesome blogger.
First, I want to thank all those who participated in LINK-UP #5. If you want to check out the responses, please click the link. Don’t be shy. You are more than welcome to still get in on the conversation.
Below are a few fellow bloggers who participated in the most recent “LINK-UP” as well as in past discussions. Please check them out. You may discover a new friend and a new inspiration is just a link away.
“I am extremely thankful for my blogging community.
I am inspired by you every day.

QUESTION #6: What are your thoughts on this quote?
THE GREATEST ENEMY OF KNOWLEDGE IS NOT IGNORANCE;
IT IS THE ILLUSION OF KNOWLEDGE.
Stephen Hawking
Hope to see you in the link-up!

This topic is something I have been thinking about for quite awhile. And I think technology is one of the reasons it’s been on my mind. There are so many times a day that I run to what my husband calls “my brain,” to look up one thing or another, which is a terrific help. What would we do without Google, right? But is this constant fact-checking keeping us/me from actually learning? The simple “answers” we get from Google are often short, not well-researched, opinionated, dated, or just plain wrong. Might this be one of the factors to which Hawking was alluding?
Additionally, for those of us who had the option of attending institutes of higher learning, is it possible that without even realizing it, we might be fooling ourselves into thinking that our academic backgrounds make us “more knowledgeable” than those who have attended, excuse the cliche’, the school of hard knocks or of experience?

Oh WOW! What great thoughts. I completely see your point. What’s funny is…those from the school of hard knocks as well as those with higher learning have that one thing in common. Google! It’s at the fingertips of both.
Thanks so much for your answer. Hope you come back. 🙂

That quote amuses me! I suppose I’d have to agree with it because the “illusion of knowledge” can stifle open communication and learning.
Overconfidence in my personal knowledge, without the allowance that I might be wrong or have more to learn, leads to pride and stubbornness, which then opens up a big can of ugly problems.
Even if I truly DO know more than someone else about a topic, it does not mean I have a right to demean others for their lack of knowledge. There was an example of this in the bible in 1 Corinthians 8, and Paul put it this way: “Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.”
I think of wisdom as being knowledge applied to everyday life. That’s where the key lies! You can know about many things, but if you can’t put that knowledge to use, it accomplishes nothing. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5)

Great comments and great example! I appreciate your thoughts and input. Seems like I’m always asking God for the knowledge, wisdom and guidance in life. He answers every single time!😃

Yes, I agree. You need to go into the subject of your knowledge to fully understand and recognise what you know so far and what you need to question further. And thanks for these thought provoking questions !

Hawking said it right, the illusion of knowledge takes away the need to research and explore for the truth and in this lies the defeat of a purpose which otherwise may have unveiled greater things.

In response to the quote, knowledge can lead some people to honestly believe that they are an expert on a particular topic when in fact they are not. Thank you for the opportunity to link up with other bloggers.

You are so right. I’ve seen this up close and personal. Experience is the best learning tool for me. Hands-on of the rights and wrongs of any topic is good but I’m no expert and never will be. Lots of listening, observing, asking and practicng is still a huge part of my life every day. Thanks for your comments. Truly appreciate it. 🙂

When people think they have knowledge, but in actuality they do not, They elude themselves. They mislead others by relaying incorrect information, Their misinformation often creates serious problems for others.

I totally agree, Peggy. I saw a quote once that said,…Knowledge comes from learning but wisdom comes from living. I may one day be knowledgeable about much but I hope to be way more wiser. Thanks for linking up. Appreciate your support. 🙂

I agree. An unreliable theory can be just as dangerous as utter ignorance. It is important for scientists to be critical of everything we think we know.
